Considering that GameStop and GameFly both were significantly impacted by Microsoft’s original policies regarding used games on the Xbox One, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that both companies have come out to praise Microsoft for reversing those policies. In response to an inquiry from Polygon, a representative from leading video game retailer GameStop commented on the news, saying that the move is “great news for gamers,” and applauding the company for “understanding consumers and the importance of the pre-owned market.” GameStop’s shareholders will undoubtedly be pleased by the news as well; as of writing, GameStop’s stock has risen just under six percent in after-hours trading. GameStop isn’t the only company pleased by the news, of course. In a statement to Joystiq, Sean Spector, co-founder of game rental service GameFly and SVP of business development and content, also had a few nice words for Microsoft. “I always felt good about the future of GameFly, but I feel better today,” Spector told the site. “Today is a win/win for consumers, as well as GameFly. I think choice is always important and now consumers have more choice. And I give [Microsoft] credit for listening to their consumers.” Spector wasn’t willing to go into any details, but the company had been in talks with Microsoft for some sort of deal. “I think the original proposal would have been detrimental to lots of people’s [business] systems,” Spector said. “Not just GameFly. And, most importantly, gamers. Based on what I’ve read today, which is all I know today, it’s business as usual for Xbox. Their statement is really cut and dry.” Have any thoughts to share on Microsoft’s Xbox One policy reversal? Sound off in the comments section below. New Jersey school officials have threatened a 12-year-old hearing-impaired girl to stop using sign language to communicate on the school bus or face a 3-day suspension according to The Washington Times. Danica Lesko and her parents have told reporters that sign language is the only way for her to communicate after she lost her hearing in an accident. The Washington Times said that officials at Stonybrook School and district officials in Branchburg New Jersey have said that signing is a safety hazard. “In a statement released through the school district’s attorney, David Rubin, the Branchburg Board of Education insisted it did not violate anyone’s rights and is only trying to protect other students,” ABC News reported. “The Board is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to all students with disabilities, and is satisfied that there has been no violation of that policy in this case. “The Board is also committed to assuring the safety of all students who travel on District buses, and will continue to take appropriate steps to accomplish that goal,” the statement said. According to The Washington Times, Mary Ann Lesko, Danica’s mother said, “She has a hearing problem, and now she’s being punished for using sign language. It’s absurd.” Danica’s parents are considering suing over the school’s threat because they claim that the officials are violating the Americans with Disabilities Act. Parents are very protective when it comes to their children and their rights and safety. Some recent news regarding children’s safety included the parents that included the Facebook kidnapping prevented by the child’s parents, and there was also the story of the mother who set up her own sting to nab an online predator. Parents are protective over their children, and in the case of Danica Lesko, her parents should be concerned. How accommodating can the school be if they are telling a hearing-impaired girl that she can’t use sign language to communicate? The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers appeared to be done with a proposed mega deal that would have sent coach Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett to L.A, but the teams re-opened talks on Wednesday and have quickly made progress. A source close to the process said the teams met Wednesday and ironed out several sticking points, namely the Clippers hesitancy to send two first-round picks to Boston. The likely structure of the deal would be two separate trades — the Clippers sending center DeAndre Jordan straight up for Garnett, and another trade sending two first-round picks to Boston as compensation for releasing Rivers. But there are still some difficulties. Boston would need to release Rivers out of his three-year, $21 million contract, and both teams would need to convince league officials that the deals were not contingent upon each other, as the league prohibits coaches from being traded. For the Clippers, the trade would open up several possibilities. The addition of Garnett would likely guarantee that point guard Chris Paul signs a long-term contract with the team rather than testing free agency. With Paul signed to a long-term deal, the Clippers could be free to shop backup point guard Eric Bledsoe. The Celtics had tried to included Bledsoe in the trade proposal, but the Clippers refused as he was deemed too valuable. Los Angeles first looked at Bledsoe as an insurance policy if Paul left the team, but also considered him an important piece for a potential future trade. With rumors that the Clippers were also trying to shop Blake Griffin, the team has shown a willingness to make big moves to follow-up its first ever Pacific Division title. The Clippers had a disappointing end to the season, losing in the first round to the No. 6 seed Memphis Grizzlies. The trade would show them committing to competing in the Western Conference with teams like the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder. The Clippers and Celtics could now close out the deal on Thursday if talks go well enough, sources said. Johnny Depp has revealed that he is blind in one eye, and that he can only see a few inches in front of his face when he isn’t wearing glasses. The 50-year-old actor was talking to Rolling Stone about his vision problems, stating that he is blind in his left eye, and that he is near-sighted in his right. Depp stated, “Everything is just very, very blurry. I’ve never had proper vision.” He also talked about the problems he has not having anonymity, noting, “Going somewhere where you don’t have to be on the run or sneak in through the kitchen or the underground labyrinth of the hotel.” He went on to add, “At a certain point, when you get old enough or get a few brain cells back, you realize that, on some level, you lived a life of a fugitive.” Depp also found time to discuss the demise of his 14-year-relationship with Vanessa Paradis, who he dated for 14 years, stating, “The last couple years have been a bit bumpy. At times, certainly unpleasant, but that’s the nature of break-ups, I guess, especially when there are kiddies involved.” He then added, “Relationships are very difficult, especially in the racket that I’m in because you’re constantly away or they’re away and so it’s hard. It wasn’t easy on her. It wasn’t easy on me. It wasn’t easy on the kids.” Depp also noted that, “It doesn’t stop the fact that you care for that person, and they’re the mother of your kids, and you’ll always know each other, and you’re always going to be in each other’s lives because of those kids. You might as well make the best of it.” Whilst he has tried to hide the public limelight from his two children, stating, “You can’t shield them, because then you’d be lying. So you can at least be honest with your kids, and you say the absolute truth to your child — that was very important to not pussyfoot around.” What do you think of Depp’s revelation? Dunkin’ Donuts is getting ready to start selling their new gluten free doughnuts and other pastries sometime this year. Stan Frankenthaler, the company’s executive chef said in an email that they will begin selling gluten-free cinnamon-sugar doughnuts and blueberry muffins across its U.S. stores this year. Bloomberg.com reported: “We recognize the importance of providing our guests with many options, including alternative choices for people with food and dietary restrictions,” he (Frankenthaler) said. “The pastries, to be sold at participating shops, are packaged separately to avoid contamination from other foods that contain wheat flour.” Going “gluten free” seems to be one of the newest trends, sensitivity to gluten, also known as celiac disease is still being researched. According to Bloomberg.com Nancy Childs, a food marketing professor at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, said in a telephone interview: “The number of people who think they benefit from going gluten-free is growing. Gluten-free foods aren’t only consumed by people with celiac disease. “People feel that they are choosing a healthier alternative when they buy gluten-free fare,” she said. So what is celiac disease? It’s sensitivity to gluten, which is the protein in wheat, rye and barley. “The autoimmune disorder affects about one out of every 133 Americans,” according to the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center’s website. Dunkin’ Donuts is known for their pastries, and after seeing positive results after testing their gluten-free breakfast pastries in locations in Massachusetts earlier this year, they are now expanding to sell them elsewhere. The new gluten free pastries, including their doughnuts are expected to draw in a whole new crowd with their new healthier choices. Even though gluten free doesn’t always mean less calories, people still see these options as healthier for a variety of reason. With the new gluten free doughnuts hitting stores this year, will you be grabbing one to give it a try? Chris Bosh doesn’t have any sympathy for Miami Heat fans who left Game 6 in the final seconds assuming their team’s season was over. As the Heat fell behind five points with under 30 seconds to play, a stream of Heat fans headed to the exits. But as they were leaving, LeBron James hit a three-pointer, the Spurs missed too many free throws, and Ray Allen connected on a prayer of a three-pointer. Overtime, just like that. For the dozens of fans who left the arena, the 103-100 victory was the biggest win they never saw. Chris Bosh had some angry words for the fair-weather fans after the game. “For all those guys [fans] who left, make sure they don’t come to Game 7,” Bosh said. “We only want the guys who want to stay. … You never give up. People gave up on us. They can stay where they are and watch the game at home.” Television cameras captured the chaotic moment when the crowd suddenly realized that the game was not over, but were turned away by security as the stadium has a strict policy of no re-admittance. Bosh said it’s what they deserved. “You can’t get let back in after you leave,” Bosh said. “I know that. Hell, I’ve been to games. You can’t leave a game and then come back. It doesn’t make any sense. You left. It’s not punishment, that’s protocol.” Chris Bosh was actually one of the main reasons why the Heat won. He scored some timely baskets and blocked the Spurs final two shot attempts, including a running three-point attempt by Danny Green as time expired. Bosh had said before the game that Green, who already set the record for three-pointers in an NBA Finals series, would not be open this game, and he made sure to it himself. It was a marked difference from the Chris Bosh who actually apologized to teammates for his poor performance against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals and has struggled with inconsistency throughout the playoffs. After Chris Bosh told the early exiting fans not to come for Thursday’s final game, the Heat faithful might be curious which Chris Bosh is showing up for Game 7.
