Advice please. I got a small bonus from work this Xmas and decided to buy a camera. I'd been taking more and more pics on my i phone and thought the bonus would be a chance to have a real camera for the first time since I was a student. I was going to go for a CSC but the good people in Jessops ( the week before it shut) talked me round to an entry level DSLR - I went home with a Canon 1100D, a 50mm prime and a cheap Tamron 70-300 zoom. Having been bitten by the bug I then picked up a Fuji x10 as a carry round. Having taken a 1000 or so shots and done some reading up I'm wondering whether I should have picked up a higher spec camera. I'm getting some good shots, especially with the prime, but am finding the kit lens pretty unexceptional by comparison and while the 1100 seems efficient enough it's menu doesn't really lend itself to adjusting settings... and it feels very plasticky compared to the Fuji which is a much more enjoyable camera to use in that tactile sense. If I'm looking to upgrade would you recommend getting a better body - a 60D or 650D say - or keeping the 1100D, keeping on the learning curve but looking for a better quality zoom lens (18mm-70mm?)to get similar quality images as with the 50mm. Budget around ?300 - with potential for a bit of trade in if I change bodies. I did for a while ponder fogging the Canon, the lenses and the Fuji and going for a x100s but I quite like the choice of the two cameras - they do different things which is good for me as a relative rookie. Any advice appreciated. Kevin

I really want to get a table saw, But there is no way I can store one in my home, even a collapsible one. The one I was drooling over is the Porter Cable 220 at Lowes. But since that is out of the question, I am looking at the Festool TS55 REQ track saw. It is a specially designed circular saw that sits on an aluminum rail. The rail is aligned with the cut line and the saw does the rest. I know one can make your own saw guide to do the same thing but the Festool has some really nice features. 1. the sight line is the same whether the cut is 90 degrees or 45 degrees 2. the Festool is almost completely enclosed. All the sawdust exits through the dust port whcih can be connected to a vac. 3. the Festool blade is nearly flush on one side so you can make a cut only a fraction of an inch from a wall (good for cutting laminates in floors) 4. It cuts nearly splinter free 5. The track or rail is rubber backed so it does not slide on the wood. The big disadvantage, cost. It is nearly $600. A couple of people I know have the saw and swear by it. It does nearly everything a table saw can do. So my question has anyone here use it and what are your thoughts?

Thought this might just be a reminder that there is always someone out there trying to scam us out of our money . Many will know of the pitfalls that can be on the bay. Well I want some Martin Logan Speakers so in my search for some Martin Logan Speakers I spotted and add very recently, Martin Logan Audiophile Speakers Theos, Stage, & Dynamo1000w in London ?10,000 new. Ok so could buy the package for the right money and sell the sub and center if not keepers and the Theos are current .. The seller was new to Ebay, No History, and very little detail to the goods, age, reason for changing and so on. So everybody has to start sometime on Ebay but better safe than sorry . So contacted seller and asked would it be OK to collect with cash if successful? No Reply! Placed bid giving the a benefit to my doubt, second email sent. No reply, so no more bids even if they didn't want collection a reply was needed. Auction ended at under ?1500 bargain, wow if genuine a good deal for the buyer but it seemed too good to be true and have missed out on ithence my caution. Guess what yep received email from Ebay Loss Prevention Department not to proceed with the purchase ect. ect so just a reminder to be cautious on Ebay if you go there.

While in Best Buy the other day I sat down for a few minutes to audition the new Sony 65" 4K set, currently being sold for the approachable price of $7000. A few thoughts... It's been said that 4K is only useful for really big sets (70" and larger). I'm not convinced of that. Detail is detail. And this set has lots of detail. Alas, you only get a short loop of footage to work with from the demo device, but it's still impressive nonetheless. In the first clip, It's easy to see the iris patterns in the model's eyes...and the little wisps of hair on her cheek (the model is a 10 year old girl). For the soccer field clip, the mottled complexion of the groundskeeper's face made me think that newscasters are going to be re-examining HD makeup all over again...you can really see people's pores. The detail is so real that you can easily see the 10 year girl's stage makeup for the shoot. It's not badly done, but you notice it's there now. The video clip is way over-saturated for color, but I expect this in a demo. HD sets were a lot like this in the early days of 720p and 1080p demo reels a decade ago. But it's nice to get real deep color (>8 bits per channel) versus what most of us have been looking at on HD for years now, especially on broadcast TV. There weren't any low light clips shown, so it's hard to judge the set on blacks. The side mounted speakers are a waste for most people who already invest in a capable home theater system. I suppose that the speakers could keep someone from needing to buy a soundbar, but really, if you're dropping $7K on a set like this, you probably have a real multi-channel sound system. The only real problem with this set is the cost (although cheaper than I would have originally thought) and the fact that it's still a H.264 device with HDMI 1.4. 4K TV won't be a fully formed product until HDMI 2.0 and H.265 compression gets delivered late this year or certainly by CES in January 2014. But if you have to have this set now...it sure is tempting.
