The new City Target at Geary and Masonic is opening to the public today, although the official Grand Opening or whatever is Sunday. Not gonna lie, The Wife and Baby Beyonce will be there today, because the kid needs diapers and some other shit and The Wife was already planning the 30-minute drive to the Target at Serramonte. Now it's a 4-minute drive to the new store.Photo stolen from SFGateNaturally, I'm sorta conflicted about the whole thing. On the one hand, San Francisco is currently engaged in some bitter struggles about chain stores moving in. And I kinda agree with that! I don't want to see San Francisco turn into Everytown, where everything's a chain store and anyplace is indistinguishable from anyplace else. If you got blindfolded and dropped into most cities, you would literally not be immediately able to tell if you were in Phoenix or St. Louis or Lexington except for maybe the accents and the weather because most American cities have become so homogenized. That's bad! And we don't want that here.ON THE OTHER HAND, that Geary/Masonic shopping thing has been sad and mostly empty for years and Target will create a lot of jobs and they really do offer a lot of great products at very low prices. But it's still a chain. It's weird, though. Target seems to get a pass from people in SF. They're not universally loathed like some other chains, although I suspect if you tried to put a City Target into, say, the old Tower Theater on Mission, people would lose their fucking minds. I'm not sure what it is about Target that insulates them from the same shit other chains get if they try to move in. Same with Trader Joe's. We can't get enough Trader Joe's.I don't really have any point here, except that there are a lot of questions about chain stores in SF I don't have answers to. That is a pretty lame point. Oh well.

Jay Z & Beyonce are not only the richest couple in America, but according to Vanity Fair, they're also the most powerful. Vanity Fair cited Hov's successful "Magna Carta Holy Grail" album, Beyonce's Super Bowl performance, Bey's HBO documentary, and her World Tour as validations for their top power ranking. In addition, we can't forget about Jay's foray into the sports world, with Roc Nation Sports grabbing up some primetime players in several different sports. Beyonce and Jay Z are the leaders of the New Establishment. Vanity Fair recently released “The New Establishment” list, which ranks “25 members of the power elite,” and Jay Z and Beyonce are right on top. Jay Z, 43, and Beyonce, 32, were ranked 8th on the list last year. They climbed to the top this year thanks to Roc Nation jumping into the world of sports and Beyonce’s sold out Miss Carter Tour. The magazine writes: “Jay Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, is now shaking up the sports world, making a play to represent athletes, including Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder… Meanwhile, Beyoncé delivered a scintillating Super Bowl halftime performance, released an HBO documentary, and then promptly sold out her world tour, the Mrs. Carter Show.” Jay Z and Beyonce were also at the top of the “Highest Earning Celebrity Couples” list. Forbes estimated that their net worth is about $95 million. Jay Z told VF last week that he led a “charmed life” with Beyonce. The musician was talking about how he deals with the paparazzi and the gossip magazines when he said: “I mean, we’ve got a really charmed life, so how can we complain? But when you think about it, we’re still human beings.” The two musicians beat out Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Brian Roberts and Steve Burke of Comcast, Bob Iger of Disney, and Rupert Murdoch from Fox News.; Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre were the second highest ranked musicians (sixth overall) thanks to their Beats headphones. Do you think Jay Z and Beyonce deserve to be at the top of “The New Establishment.” Beyonce And Jay Z Leading ‘The New Establishment’ is a post from: The Inquisitr News

Beyonce and Jay Z have friends in very high places. So when you read that they top this and that list of the most powerful or whatever, just take that information with a grain of salt. Beyonce and Jay Z top the list of Vanity Fair‘s annual ranking of “The New Establishment,” a list of “25 members of the power elite. Last year they were no. 8 on that list. Their meteoric rise to the top of the list prompted E! to ask, “Are ’03 Bonnie and Clyde really the most powerful couple?” E! mentions that the attention-starved Beyonce “still hasn’t put out a new album,” and what has Jay Z done in the past year to deserve such recognition? After analyzing Beyonce and Jay Z’s past achievements in a video montage, E! came to the conclusion that Jay Z and Beyonce are the most powerful couple in Hollywood — because Kanye West says so. From E! News: Let’s wrap this up. “Where the bad bitches, huh? Where you hiding?? I got the power to make your life so exciting.” Oh! Here she is. Life = exciting. Conclusion: Yes, they are the most powerful couple. Kanye said so. ‘Ye does warns, “No one man should have all that power.” So it’s a good thing that man splits it with Queen B.

*Genius and eccentricity come hand in hand, especially in the entertainment business. There are few true, true innovators or geniuses that don’t come with a little bit of crazy – Woody Allen, Prince, Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill. When you tiptoe on that edge of madness and creativity …. sometimes you fall into the deep end. Of course, most times the output of these artists’ work is so great you’re able to ignore just how nuts they might be – go ahead, try and take our copy of Purple Rain from us – but in the case of Kanye West, it’s really getting harder and harder to put up with him. It’s really amazing how he’s actively trying to make himself into the most annoying celebrity in the world. The whole Taylor Swift thing at the VMAs? Okay, it was stupid … but that was years ago, and he was, you know, inherently right about the whole thing (Taylor Swift over Beyonce? Really?). We could forgive that, and the music sure helped. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch the Throne and Yeezus are worth forgiving any on-stage disruption. Since then, though, it’s been nothing but irritating. The whole Kim Kardashian hookup just leaves us with an acrid taste in our mouths; now, it’s really impossible to separate Kanye’s eccentric geniusness from Kim’s vapid, shallow, puzzling fame. Then, of course, there’s the almost total disappearance of his sense of humor. Jimmy Kimmel’s recent and hilarious satirization of Kanye’s arrogant, weird interviews was incisive and flat-out funny – and Kanye reacted like Jimmy had set his mansion on fire. Honestly. Have a little bit of a sense of humor about yourself Kanye. You’re great, but you’re not saving the world. You’re making music. Oh, and speaking of, why don’t you get back to work, instead of picking fights with talk show hosts? You’ve got to really get going on a masterpiece if you want our forgiveness for this stunt.

Its definitely that time again for Vanity Fair. The 2013 unveiling of “The New Establishment” has been released. The ever-popular list is encompasses 25 candidates including prominent musicians, business magnates, CEOs, and fashion designers. However, it’s no surprise who tops the list this year. First they topped “Forbes: Most Powerful Couples” list last month. Now, they’ve taken over Vanity Fair. That’s right! Beyonce and Jay-Z head the list of elite ‘power players’ in this year’s “New Establishment.” The New Establishment” determines ranks based on global conquests, business accolades, financial growth, and notable business mergers and acquisitions. The list also features an entertaining “Off the Clock” column for each candidate, which equates to a “Things You Didn’t Know” briefing that offers little known facts about those in discussion. The ’03 Bonnie and Clyde jumped up an impressive seven spots from last year’s Vanity list where they landed in the No. 8 spot. Earning approximately $95 million last year, the power couple has definitely made great strides on stage and in the board room. Beyonce kicked the year off with a jaw-dropping Super Bowl performance that took the world by storm. However, the Super Bowl performance actually served as a teasing prelude for her “Mrs. Carter” tour, which sold approximately $2 million a night. Jay-Z also garnered a massive financial gain with the “Watch the Throne” tour with rapper, Kanye West. As one of rap’s most highly anticipated tours, it brought in an estimated $1.4 million a night in the United States. His latest 30-day stadium tour, “Legends of the Summer” also grossed an estimated $69.75 million. They’ve also had a number of other business investments that raked in sizable profits. Jay-Z’s Roc Nation empire and Beyonce’s House of Dereon clothing line both saw financial gains over the past year. Jay-Z also sold his share in the Barclay Center and the Brooklyn Nets. Jay-Z’s most recent feat was the success of his latest album, “Magna Carta Holy Grail.” The album was certified platinum by the RIAA before it even hit stores due to the success of the Samsung pre-order deal he acquired prior to the album’s release. The power couple also has a total of 34 Grammys collectively, coincidentally winning 17 a piece. The steep number of wins is definitely a record-breaking, unprecedented feat. The “Off the Clock” column in “The New Establishment” also revealed fun facts about the couple. According to Vanity, Beyonce informed GQ that she’s actually had a mini-reality documentary of her life in full swing since 2005. Jay-Z also revealed in a light-hearted moment while tweeting that his favorite cereal was Cap’n Crunch. Image via Wikimedia Commons

According to her interview with Australia’s Herald Sun, Iggy Azalea’s debut album, The New Classic, has been pushed back from October 2013 to March 2014. ”The official date? Fucked if I know!” Azalea admitted in the interview.  ”It’s done, it’s so depressing to say this but it’s the beginning of March, it’s so far away but I just have to accept that.” She would continue, stating “It was supposed to be October but obviously I’m going on tour with Beyonce and they said I’m not allowed to put an album out while I’m on tour because I’ll be trapped in Australia and I won’t be able to do any TV appearances and I thought that’s fair enough, that’s three weeks and then they said ‘You can’t put an album out around Christmas time, that’s a bad time’ and I said ‘What about January?’ ‘Well nobody gets back off holidays and then it’s the Brit Awards, you can’t release an album, it’s terrible for marketing’ which brings me to February. The marketing team gets to control me unfortunately, I don’t get to control that.” Iggy Azalea will be on the Australian leg of Beyonce The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour on which begins on October 22 and stretches for 14 dates until November 9. Rap mogul Jay Z, 44, thought he found the next Raven-Symone when he signed Will Smith’s precocious daughter, Willow, to a recording contract. But the kid proved she wasn’t ready for the big time and backed out of the deal. That hasn’t stopped Jay Z from sucking up to other Hollywood bigwigs through their children. Roc Nation announced Steven Spielberg’s daughter and adopted son have been signed to Jay Z’s Sony Music imprint. It doesn’t matter whether the kids are talented or not. They have the prestigious Spielberg name, which will open more doors for Jay Z. The daughter and adopted son of billionaire film director Steven Spielberg have been snapped up by Jay Z’s Sony Music imprint. Wardell — a pop duo comprised of Theo Spielberg, 25, and Sasha Spielberg, 23 —have been signed to Roc Nation, the label founded in 2008 by Jay Z that is home to another celebrity child, Willow Smith. Sasha — who is also an actress — was born to Spielberg and his second (and present) wife Kate Capshaw in 1990. Capshaw had adopted Theo before marrying Spielberg and was later adopted by the director. The band’s first record, the “Brother/Sister EP” was released by independent label National Anthem in June. Tracks from the EP can be found on the band’s SoundCloud page. Their debut album on Roc Nation is due in 2014.
