James Gandolfini has died. Not only did the acting world lose a major talent Wednesday, but two children lost their father. The Sopranos star, who took home three Emmy awards for his portrayals, died while in Italy of an apparent heart attack at the age of 51.
A statement from HBO, which ran the hit series in which James Gandolfini played the starring role of mob boss Tony Soprano, reads:
"We're all in shock and feeling immeasurable sadness at the loss of a beloved member of our family. He was special man, a great talent, but more importantly a gentle and loving person who treated everyone no matter their title or position with equal respect.
He touched so many of us over the years with his humor, his warmth and his humility. Our hearts go out to his wife and children during this terrible time. He will be deeply missed by all of us."

Indeed, James Gandolfini leaves behind a teenage son named Michael (whom he co-parented with ex-wife Marcy Wudarski) wife Deborah, pictured above by his side in December of last year, and their baby girl.
Liliana Ruth Gandolfini was born just eight months ago, on October 10, 2012, in Los Angeles. Noting the arrival weight 7 lbs., 9 oz., a rep for the couple stated at the time, "James and Deborah are thrilled and all are doing well."
