Megadeth debut at number 6 with the album Super Collider, their highest point on the chart since 1994's Youthanasia and the third highest charting studio album of their 28 year career. The album also starts at 3 on the Rock Albums. The Barenaked Ladies are celebrating their 25th anniversary with the album Grinning Streak which debuts this week at number 10, the band's best showing since 2003's Everything to Anyone. Overall, it's their fourth top ten album. It also comes in at 5 on the Rock Albums and 4 on Digital Albums where it outsold Megadeth. At 89 on the Albums and 2 on the Jazz Albums charts is Inspiration: A Tribute to Nat King Cole by George Benson. Benson had a string of four top ten Pop albums in the late-70's but has been mainly a jazz artist since. Inspiration is only his third album to make the top 100 in the last 25 years. The Starbucks exclusive Opus Collection by the Band starts at 91 while the John Mellencamp/Stephen King penned musical opens at 96. The latter album was produced by T-Bone Burnett and includes performances by Mellencamp, Elvis Costello, Kris Kristofferson, Taj Mahal and Rosanne Cash among others. Veteran Artist Index for June 22, 2013: 2576 +337 (+15.0%) High: 3981 (w/o 3/30/13) Low: 1227 (w/o 1/19/13) The Veteran Artist Index tracks the impact of albums by veteran artists on the Billboard Top 200. Any album that is by or, in the case of soundtracks and various artists albums, has a majority of track by artists who have been recording for 25 years or more is included in the index. Points are awarded on a reverse basis with a number 1 album receiving 200 points and a number 200 album receiving 1 point. The top selling album/track by a veteran artist is marked in red. New entries by veteran artists are marked with an N and shown in blue. Reentries are marked with an R and are shown in green. Cocaine 21 Dear Mr. Fantasy Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood - 2009-06-13- Washington, DC (HQ Aud) NOW - Few bands stayed together for less time, yet produced as lasting a legacy, as did Blind Faith. They recorded one album, which when released in August 1969, immediately went to #1 on the Billboard charts. They toured in support of the album that same month, the Blind Faith’s only live performances, except for their debut gig in Hyde Park in July we posted earlier this month. Since the group had less than an hour's worth of material, they also had to play tunes from Eric Clapton's days with Cream and Steve Winwood's time with Traffic. Eric was unhappy that the band seemed to be evolving into Cream, part 2, and by October, Blind Faith was no more. With the exception of 1973’s Rainbow Concert, Clapton and Winwood would not reunite for a live performance for almost 4 decades. Then, on May 19, 2007, about halfway through Winwood's set at the UK’s Country Side Rocks Festival, EC strolled on stage to recreate history. That night's collaboration was followed up by appearances together at Clapton's Crossroads festival in July 2007, 3 nights at Madison Square Garden in February 2008 and joint tours in 2009, 2010 & 2011. This HQ audience recording captures the duo during that 2009 tour, on July 13, 4 years ago today, Download this one and you'll see (and hear), that in rock, as in life, the more things change, the more they stay the same!

Eric Clapton was blown away the first time he heard Jimi Hendrix play! James Marshall Hendrix, more commonly known as Jimi Hendrix was an ultra talented guitarist, singer and songwriter. He is actually one of the most celebrated guitarists in recent history. He was influential in developing the amplifier feedback technique that gained popularity. And Rolling Stone named three of his albums to their list of 100 greatest albums of all time. Eric Clapton is also a musician and singer/songwriter. He is also one of the most influential guitarists of all time. He was a three-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was named fourth on Gibson's list of 50 Greatest Guitarists of all time. Neither man has a very shabby resume when it comes to music. However, when Eric Clapton first heard Hendrix play, he was blown away. In fact, he was quoted as saying "you never told me he was THAT good!" (Source)

They certainly did in my day. Everybody went there. Okay-not everybody. Denny’s After Midnight  “After midnight, we’re gonna shake your tambourine. After midnight, it’s all gonna be peaches and cream. We’re gonna cause talk and suspicion; We’re gonna give an exhibition. We’re gonna find out what it is all about. After midnight, we’re gonna let it all hang down.” - Eric Clapton, After Midnight. Lyrics written by John J. Cale. © Warner/Chappell Music, Inc., Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC  Coffee And Pancakes All of us really did let it all hang down. Then we went to Denny’s. We drank coffee. We ate pancakes. And, even though we didn’t know it at the time, we were making memories. Hanging Out With A Celebrity I remember it being really cold that night-Cleveland cold. That night-that morning actually, was when Danny Thomas came over to our table at Denny’s and sat down with us. With Cliff, Rick, Ken and Scott…my high school buddies. It was around 1:30 am. We had hit a few bars and such. We weren’t quite ready to go home. So we stopped at Denny’s-the one next to The Front Row Theater. (Where Danny Thomas had just performed.) The Front Row Cleveland’s Front Row Theater wasn’t just any old theater. It was cutting-edge. It was a theater-in-the-round that featured a slowly-rotating stage. Every seat was good. The premium ones were the ones located on the aisle where the performers walked down to get onto the stage. The sound system was top of the line. The acoustics were amazing. Turns out that my wife’s late Uncle, John Faroni, built it. (You can see the name of his company, Faro Construction on the sign below.) Sammy Davis Jr. was the opening act—he opened The Front Row Theater. I saw The Jackson 5, George Carlin, Bill Cosby, Rich Little, Aretha Franklin, and Jean Luc-Ponty perform there. It truly was an amazing place. Why Did Danny Thomas Sit Down With Us? Danny Thomas must have sensed the magic going on at our table…the intellect…and of course our extreme passion for what was going on in the world at the time. Why else would he have pulled up a chair? He shared some life tips with us for a few minutes. “Go for your dreams.” “You guys are young-now’s the time.” “You look like winners to me.” Did we believe him? A little, I guess. Was it cool to have a celebrity of his stature hang out with us that night? You bet. Were all of us a bit buzzed? Yep. Did it matter? (Maybe a little.) Denny’s Late Night Crowd Although I haven’t been to a Denny’s restaurant late at night for a long time, it’s safe to assume that the people who do dine at Denny’s at 2:00 am are mostly from area clubs and bars…and aren’t a quiet bunch. (We certainly weren’t.) Well, it seems that some New York City landlords aren’t in the partying mood. They don’t want a new Denny’s restaurant franchise to open in their neighborhood. From The New York Post: “Fearing an invasion of drunken rowdies with the munchies, residents of a swanky downtown condo building have filed a lawsuit grand-slamming a plan to put a Denny’s restaurant in their building.” Well, it’s true; most of the customers will have alcohol (at least) in their systems. But, will they be rowdy? The suit also states that the new Denny’s would be “A haven for violence.” That may be pushing it a bit. I have an idea for these landlords; hire an off-duty cop or two to provide security. Brilliant…I know. Please add that one to your list of reasons why I’m The Franchise King®. Freaking Rowdies! Did things get rowdy at the Denny’s we frequented? Yes. Violent? Not that I remember. There also weren’t cameras everywhere. Nor were there as many guns around. But, not having a brand new Denny’s franchise open up in “The city that never sleeps?” It doesn’t seem right. Think of all the jobs would be created. And, think of all the memories that won’t be made if that Denny’s franchise doesn’t open. Follow @Franchis
