Justin Bieber kicked off his Journals releases on Monday with first single “Heartbreaker,” currently #1 on iTunes in 63 countries and counting at time of press. But for those who can’t wait until next week the teen star has teased what may be a future release, most likely titled “Rollercoaster.” Earlier today (Oct. 8), the 19-year-old posted an Instagram video of his manager Scooter Braun, who has joined the singer in South Korea ahead of his Believe tour concert on Thursday. It was captioned,” Scooter acting like Rodney jerkins lol… Rodney’s a legend.” The Instavid showed Braun doing a pretty dead-on impression of RnB producer Jerkins jamming on an imaginary keyboard while “Rollercoaster” plays in the background. Jerkins — a four-times Grammy Award winner who has worked with the late Michael Jackson, the late Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, and Brandy, to name just a few, and co-wrote/produced two songs on Bieber’s 2012 Believe album — has also worked on the Canadian’s Journals collection. Like “Heartbreaker,” the latest snippet reveals Bieber’s deeper move into full-on RnB but maintains the sensibilities of what makes pop great — a catchy, singalong chorus. Listening to the brief tease, the sound is vintage Jerkins circa Brandy’s acclaimed 2002 Full Moon album, echoing the Moog Bass funk of the title track, “I Thought,” and “What About Us?” Midnight, October 14, is the designated time for the next #Music Mondays reveal, so fans will have to wait and see if “Rollercoaster” is rolled out, or not. In the last few months Bieber has been in the studio with hitmaker/artist Future, Pharrell Williams, R. Kelly, Wiz Khalifa, Tyler The Creator, and it’s rumored Chris Brown may have co-penned a track. Anticipation and debate about Justin’s transition from highly successful tween and teen-orientated idol to a mature artist spiked when he contributed cameo raps to Maejor Ali’s “Lolly” video, Asher Roth’s “Actin’ Up,” also singing on Young Money rapper Lil Twist’s “Twerk” record and “Wait For A Minute” featuring the (also Young Money) rapper Tyga. Pearls were clutched while some speculated Bieber would be returning to the music fold reinvented as a rapper. But, as Bieber said last year, “I am a singer — that is my passion, Rapping is something that I like to do for fun.” Over in South Korea, Braun’s take on Journals is a thrilled one. Earlier today he tweeted: wow. listening to the mix for next week’s #musicmondays song from @justinbieber – the kid is bringing R&B back next week. LEGGO!! — Scooter Braun (@scooterbraun) October 8, 2013 He later tweeted Bieber the news “Heartbreaker” is #1 iTunes in 63 countries, while attributing its success to ‘Beliebers’ and whetting their appetites for more. just made some big moves with the #journals #musicmondays songs. wait until people hear what is coming @justinbieber! WOW — Scooter Braun (@scooterbraun) October 8, 2013 For his part, Justin also expressed delight at the reception to “Heartbreaker” as well as excitement for “Music Mondays” and his Christmas-slated Believe movie-documentary, taking to Twitter to tell his over 45 million followers, Other continents. Other cultures. Love it. So blessed. Thanks for letting me live my dream. — Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) October 8, 2013 And #heartbreaker is still #1 — Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) October 8, 2013 it is all coming together. #musicmondays #10weeks #BelieveMovie and some more — Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) October 8, 2013 Take a listen to the “Rollercoaster” teaser and let us know what you think in comments. With the release of Ta-ku's highly anticipated EP Songs To Break Up To upon us today, the Perth native gives one last tease with the haunting "I Miss You More" featuring Atu. The drum beat, subtle sonic nuances throughout and a few sweet samples from Janet Jackson and Keith Sweat help Ta-ku and Atu create a delicately beautiful atmospheric number -- one that will slowly melt all your armor and penetrate right into the core of your soul. If this is what being brokenhearted sounds like, then I'm ready to rip off the Band-Aids surrounding my bruised heart and embrace the hurt. Give your ears a dose of "I Miss You More" below then head over to Ta-ku's Bandcamp to purchase your copy of Songs To Break Up To.

24 years ago this week, Janet Jackson topped the Billboard Hot 100 with her amazing single Miss You Much. It's parent album, Rhythm Nation 1814 went onto sell millions of copies around the world. At the same time Prince was working his magic with the Batman soundtrack (that Sheena Easton duet is lush) while Luther Vandross was off creating one of my favourite songs of his Power of Love/Love Power. What has this got to do with Mike Hough you may well be asking yourself, or someone next to you if you are not reading this alone & like to chat about what you are perusing online... Well, all these artists had a gift for conveying stories in an expressive, soul searching way that transcended age groups or genres; their music was easy to love & easy to relate to whoever you are and wherever you are in your life. Regardless of commercial success, they are artists who endure because of their ability to sing as if they are speaking directly to the individual listener. Mike Hough is one of these rare breed of artists. For the past few years he's been solidly grafting, perfecting his craft and building an increasing army of dedicated followers through live shows & stunning cover versions on you tube. His EP, Stained, released earlier this year was the first sign of the great things he is no doubt set to achieve & won critical acclaim across the music industry. When he's not busy working with JB Gill from my beloved JLS or opening for Brandy, he's kind enough to give fans a free download of music - and Don't Say It's Over is an absolutely doozy (download here). Set over a shuffling quiet storm groove that, yes, reminds of classic tunes by Luther and Janet with it's ingratiating percussion & swirling production. It's Mike's smooth, refined, distinct vocals however that provide the song's melodic anchor and it's emotional core. He easily combines yearning, hope, optimism & passion towards a relationship that is all but done, breathing onto the dying embers & nurturing it back to life with his mellifluous voice. What I love about the song is that it feels like it would work in different formats - this quiet storm version (kudos to T-Town Productions on their gorgeous work here); Mike and a piano for a delicate ballad version; or a club thumping remix that has you shimmying, body popping, slut dropping & twerking way past the witching hour. And you get the impression is that Mike would bring something new to the narrative in each of those versions that enlivens the story once more. Sterling stuff, once again, and I can't wait for more...

On Tuesday, I reported that the state's Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) would stop funding things like baby food, fruits and vegetables and milk and protein vouchers for over 195,000 women, infants, and children on October 9, thanks to the federal government shutdown. But! Good news! The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has apparently reallocated funding to cover WIC's costs for the entire month of October. WIC provides nutrition assistance and health referrals, along with breastfeeding support to pregnant women and their children up to age five, whose family income is at or below 185 percent poverty level. The state Department of Health contracts with local health organizations and tribes to provide WIC services in all 39 counties in Washington. The program also authorizes certain grocery stores to accept WIC vouchers for the purchase of approved healthy foods. That said, if the shutdown continues through this month, women and children are shit out o' luck come November. “WIC helps low-income families feed their children. We hope a budget will be passed and this important program can continue beyond October 31,” said Janet Jackson Charles, director of Nutrition Services at the Washington State Department of Health, in a press release today. Don't we all. [ Comment on this story ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]

*According to a reports, Janet Jackson and her husband, Wissam Al Mana, is “quietly” researching the process of “adopting a child from a third-world country.” “She now pretty much knows pregnancy is not in the cards, so she’s been looking into adopting,” the source says. “She’s been very moved by the events in Jordan and Syria now that she’s been living overseas. Not sure how soon it will happen, but there’s been movement on this.” According to Page Six, which was first to report the news, the 47-year-old singer/actress has reached out to Queen Rania of Jordan to help with a possible adoption. “Janet has always been concerned about the welfare of the world’s children, and it’s important to her that she affords a baby the opportunities that have been afforded her,” a source told the paper. Us Weekly previously reported that the musician was eager to start a family with Al Mana, whom she began dating in the summer of 2010. “She wants kids,” an insider told Us. “If she can’t have them, she will adopt.”
