As dance music producer Tyler Sherritt entertains the masses - bringing Beatport charting hits "Petrichord" and "Survive" along on his national tour - VIBE sits down with the electro DJ star-on-the-rise to go over new music, style inspiration and the mainstream factor's influence on artists' creativity: VIBE: Over the past year you've burts onto the scene and are about to release your first original release. Do you have any advice for aspiring producers for how to make themselves noticed in the crowded dance music space?Tyler Sherritt: I think the number one piece of advice I can give to an aspiring producer is to make what you love. Too many producers have been creating "harder" or "deeper" sounds, thinking they will be judged if they don't conform. When it comes down to it, I hope you are into this music to make/play music that fills you with passion, and makes you feel the same way you did when you first experienced it. What artists inspire your sound and style? I pull inspiration from sounds that I don't necessarily resemble. Muse is a huge influence of mine. As a three-piece band they display an unbelievable ability in proving less is more through a massive and intense sound, while also euphoric and seemingly complex at the same time. My trance influences such as Jerome Isma-Ae, Armin, BT etc. resemble that model of music, which really emotionally affects me, while my more progressive influences such as Eric Prydz, Deadmau5 and Ummet continue to push the boundaries of the fusion of sound and quality of production. For my songwriting, I draw my inspiration from artists such as Ben Howard, Ray Lamontagne, John Mayer, and Coldplay. I think it's important for the vocals to match the production in emotion and passion. I feel that inspiration is heavily attributed to the life you live, the people you surround yourself with, and of course the music you listen to. When it comes to mainstream dance music, there is a recent creativity drain that has developed into a focus on the "festival anthem" style of electronic music. Do you find it difficult to appeal to a mainstage audience while sticking to your roots as a true electronic musician? I think yes, of course, there is a recent creativity drain on the intense festival anthems or "beatport bangers," but to say that every single one of these intense tracks is the same and lacks creativity is a naive way of thinking. There is a very broad spectrum of what fits into these festival anthems; some are beyond incredible in my opinion, and I agree that some sound exactly the same as the other stale, imitation tracks. I think that every genre in dance music is influenced by a "current sound" within their specific genre. Last year for the mainstream dance music it was the "chainsaw" basses, this year it's the "minimal drop" and next year there will be a different style that people will get "tired of." History repeats itself, in and out of music, and we would be lying to ourselves by thinking differently. Personally, I try to appeal to a mainstage audience by incorporating the current forward thinking sound in the genres I love to play and create. That is how I stick to my roots as a true electronic musician and that is what got me into it in the first place. I wouldn't be making it if I thought it was going to "fail." I look forward to the future of each genre of electronic music and I think the best music is yet to come. What's in the future for Tyler Sherritt? a full length album? The future is completely open. I am producing and writing lyrics every day. I have a jumbled mess of music that I can't wait to finish. Who knows, it may turn out to be an album, or it may turn out to be something else. The future for my live shows will continue to expand and I expect to experiment with various elements of live instrumentation. Case in point, the future for me is to seek out as much knowledge and inspiration as possible and to learn from the

The romance between Katy Perry and John Mayer is heating up and insiders predict she may have a new reason to ROAR.  Marianne Garvey tells The Gossip Table that Mayer is meeting with designers to pick out a ring. If all goes according to plan, the two could be engaged by Thanksgiving. Talk about a romantic holiday! Christina Aguilera is looking better than ever after losing a reported 80 lbs and changing her wardrobe. Noah Levy reports the singer was pressured to tone down the makeup and hair extensions. The singer, thankfully, took the advice and was added back as a judge. Her new look can be seen on the current season of The Voice. Get more celebrity gossip and entertainment news at VH1 Celebrity! Most would agree most popular artists out there have something truly special to give to their fans. This goes above the typical attributes like raw talent, amazing songs, nice voice, or even a very marketable look, sound & image. There’s something truly infectious at the core of these artists that simply makes us feel good when we listen to them. Whatever “it” is – they all seem to have “it”. Today I listened to the latest CD from Tampa based Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist Joe Farren who just released his latest CD entitled: “Open Skies” in 2013. Venturing to his website I get the impression this is one artists who is extremely determined, dedicated and passionate about the songwriting craft. Farren grew up in Portland, Maine in a home that vibrated with the harmonious grooves of country, folk, pop and R&B greats like Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Hank Williams, Jr., Elton John, Steve Winwood and Bruce Springsteen. His instinctually-impeccable musical ear allowed him to accurately identify singers on the radio at a young age. Once his fingers began to explore the keyboard and the guitar, he found those 50s rock blues riffs with ease and began to emulate his favorite players. From start to finish this CD from Farren is a very entertaining musical experience all around. It has a very warm and inviting Pop-Folk quality to it, and even dabbles in Americana and Bluesy-Rock. It also reminds me of classic John Mayer, Bob Dylan, Robert Earl, John Hiatt and Guy Clark. Any fans of any of these musical styles or bands will enjoy this latest release from Farren. I can’t help but hear a bit of Woody Guthrie influence in there as well. It’s clearly marketed for those who like a male folk vocal front with sizzling musicianship in the background. I get the impression Farren is being true to himself as an artist via this compelling 11 track line up. In other words he hits the mark remarkably well by just by being who he is musically – a real soul searcher. The songwriting is impressive enough and digs a bit deeper than the next independent artist. Within each one of these pieces Farren bares his soul and delivers what I would call pure musical mojo. It offers much in the way of a compelling/thought provoking musical landscape. The playing from his band is spot on and just makes the whole CD even more enjoyable. The overall vibe of the production is very honest, sincere, passionate and captivating with pockets of hope shining through. I see Farren as a real undiscovered diamond in the rough, with an amazing amount of potential. As time goes by we will no doubt hear more from him. Let me go on record and say Joe Farren is a lucrative record deal waiting to happen. I also wouldn’t be surprised to hear more of him on Prime Time Radio someday or even in a featured in film or a TV production. In close most famous artists out there have “it” I’m not so sure what “it” is but Joe Farren has whatever “it” may be. October 5, 2013 The FCS Michael Landau Strats are starting to roll out the door. The above black '68 version, currently listed by NY based Alto Music, is the first I've seen available for sale online thus far (although I coulda missed some). Above is a video from the June 2013 Tokyo Guitar Show featuring Landau demoing a burst signature model. Obviously, these are heavy Relics-- did I really need to say that? Well anyway, yeah, Landau is a master Strat player, although not a household name i.e. SRV, Eric Johnson, Clapton, Jeff Beck and darest I say, John Mayer... Point being that no self respecting Strat geek should not be without a substantial ration of Michael Landau, and Scott Henderson too, for that matter.
