The Hubster and I are out the door early this morning to get a move on seeing a few pieces of property --- yes, the cabin hunt is still on! It’s just that I haven’t been home for any weekends lately at a time that it would work for him to go ---and so, we resume. We’ll be headed up towards Boone, checking out a couple of places in the remote corners of Purlear, West Jefferson, and further up

As many of you know my new fabric sampling arrived 6 days before I departed for America… so it was head down *** up to get as much made as possible for our displays. I will show you some of the patterns I managed to complete soon but this is the only pic I have of the display that was put together in my Fabric company booth – Red Rooster many lovely people also helped out to make other items from my new Nice People Nice Things fabrics and you can see a few in the photo above. It was lovely to speak with store owners who had stocked my first range Life is Beautiful and to get the feedback that it had all but sold out for them…. I hope you all enjoy the new range as much. It will be shipping to US stores in August and to Australian stores hopefully June/July so watch this space…. you can see the complete collection at the link above…there are 19 skus - the Hexie quilt you can see will be the free pattern you can download from the Red Rooster website. more to come….. hugs for today Helen

Here's a fun photo of some of our Montreal members, taken on a visit to a new museum in Montreal: the Museum of Costume and Textile. It is located on the lower floor of the Marché Bonsecours, in the historic neighbourhood where Linda F. lived during her years in Canada. The current exhibit features some forty "gala" dresses, some 150 years old, and many of them made by big-name designers: Dior, Schiaparelli, Patou and others. The work of local designers was also included.Pam wasn't able to join us, but we were able to invite a Montreal member of SAQA, Rebekah Crown, whom Heather met when they attended the SAQA conference in Santa Fe. No doubt we will be seeing more of Rebekah in the months ahead. We included a visit to la Guilde Graphique, a collective of Montreal printmakers, and walked along the cobbled streets to a new spot, the Avenue Gallery, to see a photography show by Dylan Macdermott. Dylan is the stepson of Eve Ensler, who has established the City of Joy as a refuge and clinic for women victimized by war in Africa. Dylan's photos focused on Masai tribespeople and others who have been sheltered at the City of Joy. The gallery itself was a treat, with its thick stone walls and a simple café in the back. The get-together ended with a "trunk show" that was literally staged in the trunk of Heather's parked car. Another wonderful day of inspiration and friendship.

the sharing of my vacation photos with Hexies on Friday. I added three more flowersto my group of flowers. Thanks to Angie for inspiring me to work on this project again. Check out the others who have linked up on her blog. Very inspiring!I interrupt my vacation photos with show and tell from the Applique Addicts bee.Charlotte made the little spring time table topper using wool and beads on the leaves. This is a Primitive Gatherings pattern.Brenda has been busy making a new quilt top. Not sure what the pattern is for the top.She continues to work on her wool blocks from the Hop To It book.I also interrupt my vacation photos because I want to say a big THANK YOU to Michelle of The Raspberry Rabbits. She sent me a copy of the new Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks magazine.Look! she autographed her block which is in the magazine. It is her first entry and I am sure it won't be her last. Congrats Michelle and thanks again for adding this issue to my collection. Happy Memorial Day!With Passion, Carrie P.

Sometimes Life is not sunshine and Lollipops. Life hands us a blow to the head when we are not expecting it. I have been trying to find a way to share the death of Whip Up Designer/founder Kathreen Ricketson and her husband Rob Shugg ... who was not only an industry friend, but a personal friend. They died in a scuba accident (read about it here and HERE at CNN) It's important to celebrate her life and all the amazing things she has done to support the Quilt, Sewing and Craft community. Today a little rainbow popped into my mailbox with 'The Plan'  from Kay Gardiner and Ann Shayne of  masondixonknitting.com  Read on for my memories of Kathreen and watch the entire globe of blogs posts over the next few days. Kathreen and I meet online. We never actually meet in person, but we have been friends since she started to blog, somewhere back in 2004. I found her craft blog http://whipup.net and was hooked! What got me hooked was that Kathreen was showcasing projects from around the globe on her site. You know.. things you can just 'Whip Up'.. wink!  We started an email friendship that has lasted through these many years. Whip Up was a place of sharing, a place that built community, a place with heart. I just wrote to her last Tuesday, she was doing an interview of me for a magazine.   There are many great tutorials from so many awesome designers on her site.  And through this year the scheduled posts will still run. You can pick up this fast fabric necklace to 'whip up' at THIS DIRECT LINK You can Read my interview with Kathreen  HERE Their two children.. son Orlando and daughter Otilija, are with family. An education fund has been set up by Kathreen's brother Jonathan for them. I hope you will donate a bit to the fund, to help with the education of her children. This will honor the name of a person so very special to the online crafting community.  Information on that fund can be found here: http://whipup.net/2013/05/20/thank-you/. The email address for PayPal contributions is otilijaandorlando@gmail.com. And you can just use this button right now. Learn more about Kathreen's work HERE at her personal website As the difficult announcement post at Whip Up says at the end "hug your children extra tight tonight, kiss your partner good bye, call your family and friends and say I love you." PLEASE share this at Pinterest, your Facebook page, retweet and reblog it if you like. I can email you the code for the button, just write me at pat@patsloan.com

As the weather turns warmer,my thoughts always turn to cross stitch ~ I love to work with wool(when it's a little cooler out)butlately the linen & threads are calling.......now I just need to find my needle. do you feel the same way as I do?do you tend to stitch more in the warmer months and work with wool more when it's cold out? or am I just different that way.... ? I'm gravitating towards the floss palette you see above...berry redpale peachfern green mudand dirt ? I've dyed up some linen, grabbed an old basket to hold my new project, and I'm heading out to work in the natural sunlight in the garden.......working in the sun helps my tired eyes with those tiny little x's. ? I have a little project finish in mind for this small whisk broom ~I think you will all be pleased with the results. it will be a quick stitch.nothing too daunting as I wade myself back into my seasonal stitching... I'll save the bigger designs for autumn/hallowe'en ~ if you'd like to use a whisk broom like this one shown here, try etsy & ebayand your local antiques shopeven your hubby's garage or basement may yield one for you.~ mine measures approx 6" wide x 11" long ~ I'll share the finish with you tomorrow ~ P.S.if you are looking for the freebie design that was on my header,it can be found on my Samplermakers Forum ~if you're not a member, ...email me for an invite! One of the many reasons I love baby quilts….You can quilt them in about 1/4 the time than you can a grown people sized quilt! I finished the quilting on the 2nd quilt with the blue sashings this afternoon, early enough to fit in an impromptu afternoon nap! I’m headed for a massage in a few minutes….and I had enough time after my nap to trip the quilt up, getting ready for binding during
