I have 3 of my 6 new Bake Sale patterns completed!YaY!!!Pattern writing is such a long process...thanks so much for being patient with me :)I hope to get the remaining 3 completed in a week or so.Here are some photos in no particular order of my 3 new patterns....I hope you like them:)"Cherry Bake"I couldn't resist making another cherry quilt.A girl can never have too many if you are a cherry lover like I am:)I made this quilt for my kitchen table...it's the perfect size and is fun to piece using my Easy Corner Triangle method.I also think it would be fun to make a larger quilt by simply making more blocks.I made the Cherry Bake runner using the leftover 2 1/2" strips from piecing the alternate blocks in the quilt. And of course...a cherry pillow!"Tulip Pots"You know how I love tulips too!I put my Thimble Ruler to work and used the large one to make the pots for this quilt. The leaves and tulips are also pieced using my Easy Corner Triangle method.I wanted to show off the tulip pots so I designed a simple sashing of 3" squares. My friend Sherri pieced this one for me.I simply ran out of time and so I sent her a completed tulip pot block...my Thimble Rulers...all of my cut pieces and my drawing for the quilt. She promptly pieced the rest and sent it back to me just in time to get it quilted and bound for market. Thanks Sherri!!!I also had to make some pillows!(i heart pillows too)3 Tulips in a row.I used my small Thimble Ruler for the pots on the pillow:)"Mixing it Up!"With each collection I always like to design a quilt with a favorite vintagey item.Of course with Bake Sale being the theme of my latest...a vintage mixer quilt is a must for every vintage girl's kitchen:)They are mixing up some yummy cakes and cookies...and there are several cute spatula's to scrape the sides of the bowl.I designed the "beater blocks" for the border to look like the beaters twirling into the batter. We always fought over who got to lick the beater when I was a girl:)The beater blocks are fun and addicting to make.I have a quick and easy method for making them...I want to make a whole quilt just with these blocks! But for now...I added a beater block table runner into the pattern as well as my Patchwork Cookie Jar Cozy. After all...you need a cute jar for your homemade cookies that you made with your vintage mixer ...right?I bought the jar at Walmart. It's a 1 gallon size.Click here to get one for your cookies:)All 3 of my new patterns are now listed in my etsy shop...Busy Bee Inc.Thanks you so much for the overwhelming response to my new quilty barn block.I'll have the tutorial up on Wednesday.Have a great weekend and a quilty kind of day!xxLori

I was going through some photos this morning of the quilts we were privileged to see at the La Salle County Historical Museum in Utica, Illinois last week – has it been a week already? It has!  And there are more quilts to share! The museum is home to several exquisite Victorian era crazy quilts, and a few of them got to come out of their boxes to spend some time with us. Granny's Blackberry CobblerPick up a few baskets of berries at the market and whip up this homestyle dessert. It was shared with us by one of our favorite bloggers, Jackie Garvin from Valrico, Florida, and appears in Fresh from the Farmstand. 1/2 c. butter4 c. blackberries3 c. sugar, divided1/2 c. waterjuice of 1/2 lemon2 c. self-rising flour2 c. milkcinnamon to taste Place butter in a 13"x9" baking pan; melt in a 350-degree oven. Spread to coat pan and set aside. Combine berries, one cup sugar, water and lemon juice in a saucepan. Amount of sugar and lemon juice may be adjusted depending on how tart or sweet the berries are. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix remaining sugar, flour and milk; whisk until smooth. As soon as berries come to a boil, pour them over the melted butter in the pan. Back to the x and + blocks - I meant to post this a day or so ago! I really do love these sooo much, but really find them quite fiddly - maybe 7 different fabrics per block. I have decided to aim for one per day, or maybe at least cut fabrics for one.I have done a re-start after deciding the others looked a little dark for my liking and also some were quite inaccurate - I had lost my incentive to carry on.Our State Quilt Exhibition is on at the moment, some beautiful quilts in QuiltWest - however, I took some lousy photos, but will do a re-hash and come up with something decent to show.I bought some lovely fabrics - the Japanese on the left from an Australian market stall BeBe Bold and those onthe right arriving from the US yesterdayI am getting a nice little stash of Japanese fabrics. I have some great fabrics for Steam Punk with this addition.Blogger is being unkind, I have lost my signature again and text down the right hand side of the pic???Happy day everyone - hugs - Lurline!

Today a young man died of Osteosarcoma. I did not know him, I did not know of him either. I just found out about him today and his story touched me.When a young life is taken so early it brings things into perspective. It reminds us of our healthy children and how lucky we are to tuck them in knowing that they don't hurt and that when we wake them in the morning they'll spring to life (or slowly come alive) and you'll face nothing but the challenges of being a Mom and helping him navigate life. No matter how hard his life is, how challenging it is... he is alive, and for that I am grateful. Hugs your kids tight tonight and know, not every Mom is as lucky as we are ...This is Zach Sobiech, he was less than a year older than GP when he died ... Kind of puts things into perspective. He wrote a song and leaves a legacy of love. What a kid; I am sure his mom is hurting tonight, but she must be proud of the young man he became. RIP Zach. His You tube video is below. Just follow the link. It's worth it. Clouds by Zach Sobiech

Well it has been some time hasn't it? lost but not forgotten hopefully. I have travelled many miles, managed to drive on the wrong (right) side of the road, met so many new and wonderful friends and revisited with many dear old friends across the country. I have returned with daughter in tow (she would have happily stayed and taken up the many invites she had to travel to more states of the US) and with many exciting things to follow up on. I’ll shall cover my travels for you in a few posts over the next week or so but we’ll start at the main point of the trip – International Quilt Market Spring – Portland Oregon. For those new to quilt market it is HUGE and I mean HUGE compared to anything we have in Australia. It never ceases to amaze me the creativity gathered in one place for all to admire. When we first arrive we are greeted simply with this; a bare floor, an undressed table and some very flimsy pipe and drape walls.. the isles fill with crates, boxes and pallets.. they are unpacked and booths slowly begin to take shape over two days   after two days of prissing, primping, moving, adjusting, pinning and discussing we end up with this. my demo table and a couple of seats for weary bodies to sit and order and chat my outside corner wow wall! I placed the new ‘Cornelian’ quilt here and some other redwork projects on this cute dresser loaned to me by the wonderful Vicki.. can you see the wonderful bunting Jo made for me? This was the inside of my wall and featured more redwork –yes the Thought of the Months and Rasberry ripple quilt. thanks to Emma’s idea we setup a wall with several curtain rods to display all of the Block of the Month Quilts. Many of my best selling BOM’s were being return to me in Portland so I knew I would have too many to display on our few flat walls. This idea worked so well and allowed people to draw different quilts open to view both front and back.. I was happy with how it all turned out with goods from three suitcases…. Unfortunately I was so busy I didn't get out of my booth until Sunday afternoon and didn't get many shots of other booths at all. But I will show you more on our trip tomorrow.. and you can google ‘quilt market photos’ and see many many photos from other vendors and attendees to inspire you..   til next time Hugs and happy stitching Helen
